Marla is the co-founder of Warriors Wellness & Recovery Ranch, Inc. She is a lifelong resident of Dublin, Laurens County, Georgia and is the daughter of a Vietnam Era Veteran and granddaughter of a World War II Veteran. She and her husband, Chip, have two adult children and three grandchildren. Marla’s work in the mental health field expands over two decades, having been employed with Department of Veterans Affairs for 14 years and with Community Mental Health of Middle Georgia for seven years prior to that. Marla specializes in trauma treatment and is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as well as equine-assisted psychotherapy. Marla is a Licensed Clinical Social Work, a Board-Certified Diplomat (BCD), holds an advanced certification in hospice palliative care (ACHP-SW), is an End-of-Life (ELNEC) Care consultant and trainer, and is a Level I certified facilitator of “Practical Application for Intimate Relationship Skills” (PAIRS) – also referred to as “Warrior to Soulmate” Enrichment Instructor.
Marla’s passion for serving those who have served stems from her family’s history of military service, as well as the years of service with the Veterans Healthcare Administration serving as the liaison for the Veterans Mental Health Advisory Council and facility’s point of contact and subject matter expert for SMI Re-engage – a national initiative designed to provide outreach and specialized treatment interventions to Veterans with a chronic, pervasive mental illness who have been lost to care for over one year.
In 2017, Marla with selected Clinical Employee of the Quarter for Carl Vinson VA Medical Center and was also recognized as one of three Recovery Coordinators in the nation for developing a “best practice” approach to re-engaging Veterans to healthcare who had been lost to care for over one year. Marla holds an Associate degree in Education from Middle Georgia College & State University, a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia College & State University and a Master’s degree is Social Work from Valdosta State University.
